E.H.P.D. COMPUTER SYSTEM:

The Police Department has a sophisticated computer system administered by Sergeant Jeffrey Swett. Our officers have Panasonic Rugged laptop computers in the cars, which use a software program called "Mobil Cop" by Bio-Key International. These computers connect to a main computer system in Headquarters via Verizon Wireless1XRTT. This means they use existing cellular towers, using  data modems in the cars, to connect to Headquarters computer system.

In Headquarters, we have a local area network, utilizing a Dell Server, running Windows 2003 Server. We have 25 Dell workstations in headquarters that run KEYSTONE PUBLIC SAFETY computer aided dispatch and records management system. We have high speed internet access at all locations

WHAT THE OFFICERS CAN DO IN THE CAR

The Officers have tremendous computing power at their fingertips. When using "Mobile Cop" the officer can run a licence plate, which gives him the following information:

All done with one plate lookup in about 8 seconds. If the officer receives information that the vehicle is stolen, or there is an outstanding warrant on the owner, that information automatically prints in HQ, and all cars are notified that officer has a possible "hit". It also provides instant secure encrypted messaging between all the patrol cars and HQ.

We can dispatch cars "silently" by sending them the dispatch information directly to the computer screen when they are sent on a call, providing them with all the information they need to respond to the call and keeping the information off the airwaves. The units can "arrive" themselves, and "clear" themselves from calls right from the car.

Officers photograph arrested persons and applicants, with a digital camera. They can then do a name search for suspects in our database from the patrol car, and download their image directly to the patrol car, thus making identifying suspects much easier.

We also complete incident reports on the computer in the patrol car, and transmit them directly to HQ for the Supervisors approval and printing.

We do our own photo line-ups and wanted posters using Keystone Public Safety's software.

We can Email mugshots to any department or office that has an e-mail address.
